HCHG Chamber of Commerce
President’s Column
June/July 2007
It seems almost impossible to me that half of 2007 has now slipped away. I am certain that just yesterday we were celebrating the New Year. And now I have just four months left in my term as president of our chamber. There still is so much to do and so little time.
Our chamber of commerce has some great events coming up and I hope you will show your support by attending.
>
Definitely reserve your lunch hour on Thursday, July 12 and join us for our annual “State of the South Bay” presentation by City Councilwoman Janice Hahn. Learn about important projects, issues and initiatives affecting Los Angeles and the Harbor City / Harbor Gateway area, network with friends and colleagues and enjoy a delicious summer lunch at the Holiday Inn Torrance. We expect this event to be a sell-out, so reserve your space now by contacting the chamber office or visiting our website at www.hchgchamber.com. Seats are $30 in advance and $35 at the door (if available).
No chamber of commerce ever has enough members and my membership growth goals for our chamber this year have yet to be achieved. Please accept
a challenge to recruit one new member between now and November 1st. A membership application is included in this newsletter.
Just think about your personal and professional contacts. You know someone who will join our chamber for the same reasons you did. You do! Just share your experience with them and ask them to join. Our membership dues are a bargain,
virtually guaranteed to produce a return on investment. As an incentive, for every new member you recruit, Holiday
Inn Torrance will host you and that new member to attendance at a chamber Breakfast Connection. Please, make a personal commitment to recruit a new member this week.

Kaiser Permanente Opens New Hospital Building:
Vermont Pavilion Features Surgical Suite and Maternal/Child Health Unit
Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center announces the opening of a new hospital building, the Vermont Pavilion,
on its main Harbor City campus. The Vermont Pavilion is scheduled to open July 9, pending completion of the hospital licensing process.
This brand new, 112,000-square-foot hospital building includes a Surgical Suite on the first floor and a Maternal/Child Unit on the second floor.
The Surgical Suite boasts 11 large operating rooms, a pre-operative unit, a post-operative/recovery unit and a spacious surgery
check-in and waiting area. “Our new operating rooms are larger in size than our current rooms to allow for the latest in technology,” notes Dr. Doug Killion, medical director at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center.
The Maternal/Child Unit includes nine large single-occupancy delivery rooms, two Cesarean section operating rooms capable of supporting triplet births, 34 comfortable post-partum rooms, a nursery and a neonatal intensive care unit. The new labor and delivery and post-partum rooms feature private bathrooms and showers, flat screen televisions with DVD players, and views of Ken Malloy Park or a rooftop garden.
Adds Dr. Killion: “At a time when hospitals are closing or struggling to stay open, we’re very proud to expand our hospital. This new building will allow us to provide the best care and service to our patients.”
